We are particularly strong in short-sea shipping within the EU. With over 300 ship calls annually and experience handling cargoes of many thousands of tons, we know what it takes to transport large volumes of cargo safely

What is dry bulk shipping?

Dry bulk shipping refers to the transport of cargo by sea that is carried in bulk directly in the ship’s hold without packaging or individual stowage. We use this mode of transport for raw materials and processed products such as grain, minerals, fertilizer, and construction materials that need to be shipped in large quantities.

Unloading and loading are carried out using cranes and conveyor belts. Because the cargo is not packaged, it requires special handling, and this is an area in which we have many years of experience.

Break bulk from the same facilities

Break bulk is another form of maritime transport in which cargo is unloaded individually rather than in bulk. This includes, for example, steel coils, paper rolls, or palletized products that require individual handling.

This places different demands on equipment and planning than dry bulk, and the two modes of transport are therefore suited to different types of cargo. We handle break bulk from the same quay-side facilities in Kolding and Vejle, and together with dry bulk, these constitute our primary forms of bulk shipping.

Handling of dry bulk cargo

We have cranes and forklifts available for loading and unloading at both ports, and all employees are trained and regularly receive refresher training in cargo handling and environmental safety. We are certified to ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and SQAS.

The ports of Kolding and Vejle are centrally located in the Triangle Region, with direct access to the highway and rail network. Near the ports, we have warehousing facilities where cargo can be stored prior to onward transport. Because we handle stevedoring and storage ourselves, we track the cargo all the way from ship to warehouse without any unnecessary intermediaries.

Sea freight combined with rail and road transport

As a rule, cargo must be transported further after arriving at the port. We therefore always plan transportation with the entire logistics chain in mind and have experience in designing solutions that combine sea freight with rail or road transport, ensuring a seamless journey from shipment to final destination. We always assess this on a case-by-case basis, taking into account your specific cargo and needs.

Maritime shipping and sustainability

Sea freight emits significantly less CO2 per ton transported than truck transport, because the volume of cargo per ship is much greater than that of road transport.

For companies with large and regular shipments, dry bulk shipping can therefore be a viable alternative that both reduces the carbon footprint and is often more cost-effective. This, of course, assumes that the volume is sufficient and that the subsequent distribution is planned sensibly.

CO2 data and documentation

Sustainability requires documentation. We track the CO2 emissions from your shipments and make the data available directly in our customer portal. You can monitor consumption for both individual shipments and overall, and it’s easy to download reports for your own systems.
