EU road package against social dumping and for a better working environment

Learn more about the EU Roadmap against social dumping in this article.

What are the new rules?

  • The driver's work outside his or her home country is considered posting and must therefore be paid according to applicable national conditions.
    • This means that driving between Germany and Spain, for example, must be paid according to German and Spanish collective agreements respectively.
    • All trips must be registered in a new administrative system IMI (EU control system).
  • Cabotage rules or rules for using foreign drivers nationally are further tightened.
    • Once the quota is used, the car must be shipped out of the country.
    • Requires the car to return to its home country every 8 weeks

So what does this mean for the transportation industry and our collaboration?

  • A lot of extra administration - especially to ensure that the driver receives the right salary in the countries they work in.
  • Many wasted kilometers and unnecessary CO2 emissions when the cars have to return to their country of registration, where goods are rarely carried.
  • Increased pressure on capacity.

The above naturally creates increased costs for the entire logistics industry.
