15-year anniversary puts leadership into words
As CEO and co-owner Palle Mogensen celebrates 15 consecutive years at H. Daugaard, we asked him to reflect on his role as a leader.

"The greatest thing is when you succeed in developing employees so that they start taking responsibility."
This is how Palle Mogensen, CEO and co-owner of H. Daugaard, answers the question of what he sees as the most important element in the role of a leader.
It is now 15 years since Palle returned to H. Daugaard. Back in 2006, he became responsible for the port activities, and the following year he accepted the offer to become co-owner of the company. Since then, the title of "Sales Director" and now "Director of Rail and Port Activities" has been added to his management hat.
For the 15-year-old, helping to develop the business has always been the biggest driving force.
"I get tremendous energy from it when a casual remark turns into a huge potential. You have to dare to catch the balls that come your way," he says.
Always finding a solution
Palle Mogensen points to another element that motivates him as a leader and business developer - that much of his working life has been about finding solutions.
"During a process, it can be difficult to see the path to the goal. The key here is to remember that if you think hard enough, you will always find a solution. In fact, I've never experienced being part of a team where we haven't found a solution," he says.
Here, Palle Mogensen refers to the opening remark about the importance of employees being motivated to take responsibility: "When it comes to realizing potential, it's crucial that we do it as a team. None of us can do enough on our own. We can't create results alone."
Want to create real value
Although Palle Mogensen is now celebrating his 15th anniversary, he has many more years at H. Daugaard on his CV. Back in 1987, he started as a freight forwarder trainee, and already at the age of 24 he was given responsibility for H. Daugaard's shipping department.
In 2000, H. Daugaard had to say goodbye to Palle Mogensen for a while. However, after gathering experience from the manufacturing industry, he returned to H. Daugaard again in 2006.
Since then, the world has changed in many ways and today the logistics industry is in the midst of a digital revolution. Overall, however, Palle Mogensen doesn't foresee a revolution in his overall approach to the profession - it's all about adding real value to customers.
"We shouldn't be satisfied with just looking good in customers' Excel spreadsheets, because spreadsheets don't show anything about new and smarter ways of doing things. Real value creation requires a relationship, and I will always strive for that," says Palle Mogensen.
